Quadracious

On the Fourth of July weekend, I might normally have a barbeque. Perhaps some potato chips too. This year I decided to mix up the menu a bit, so I skipped the potato chips and went for snacks with a higher protein content.

I’ve been cutting back on the potato chips recently, and doing a bit of running. Last weekend I was up early on Sunday to join a large crowd in Surat Thani province for a 30 km run through the beautiful Khao Sok National Park.

that this is the best one yet. It was quite a birdie. And, considering how I’d played the previous 14 holes, a genuine stunning one as well.

On a recent visit to Thailand, there was this new flavor. That was impressive. I didn’t think it could get any better. And then, today I discovered these limited editions with a cooling sensation.

And I use some in the Pickwickian sense. Or I could call it quadracious. With 5.9 km this morning, I passed 2015 in total distance. 2014 still sets the standard, but I’m going after it in the year/s ahead.

Yesterday I fueled up with some pasta and rice before today’s race. I ran the 10.75 km course in 56:48. This race is called the New Year Run. 2017 is still a long ways away, and that is kind of how the run felt, like running all the way from now until 2017.

For the past month, I’ve been making an intense study of the grasses in a rather narrow latitude, from 44 to 49°N. There are many grasses at sea level, but I find some really interesting specimens at a higher elevation.

I had never run so far, or for so much time, in my life. When I crossed the finish line at the Orcas Island 25k in 3:42:48 (or 222.8 minutes), poured a beer and got in line for pizza, I was wondering how the finish times were distributed.

What does one get when a mountain walk is combined with fine fabrics, cut in the latest fashion? Not wanting to play the flaneur in Harajuku on such a fine day, Guy and I climbed up Takao-san.
