March Golf Report

I have completed another month of undefeated golf, unless you want to count finishing second as losing. More about that later. In my first round of the month, I won a stableford match at Siam Country Club’s Plantation course. Then on 9 March we played a competition at Laem Chabang Country Club’s challenging chipping course. Contested over nine holes, three of which I birdied, our team pictured below went round in 22 strokes to finish second.

I then played at Kau Sai Chau’s East Course in Hong Kong. Naturally I won the match and had two birdies, including this near hole-in-on at the 13th hole.

On 31 March I played at Koele in howling winds, winning my match 6&4 and birdieing the 8th hole playing into a 40 mph wind.

You may recognize at right the 17th hole at Koele as one of the most photographed holes in Hawaii. You may also notice that I have my game face on. Golf is a serious affair when one has such a longstanding winning streak. Did I expect to win my first match on American soil since September and the three birdie/no bogey performance I put on at Edgefield’s Pub Course? Yes, I did have some confidence today. The Experience at Koele has smooth bentgrass greens and I made a number of crucial putts. Even playing with rental clubs, I was soon able to adjust my swing to fit the clubs and to produce the shots required here. What was my reward for another undefeated month? A haupia ice cream cone and the promise of a rematch in April.
