May Golf Report

I played golf this month at Thailand, Japan, Taiwan, and Indonesia, going undefeated in all matches and winning a huge match at Sunrise Golf Club with a clutch birdie on the final hole. That was one of the few putts I made all month; my putting has been laughable, but my ball striking superb. At Rancamaya Golf Club near Bogor, I played a hard-fought match with board members of IGOLF, and from my opening tee shot to the final drive, our cheerful caddies empahtically (and in unison) showed their approval of my huge drives with exclamatory cries of “WOW”.

Earlier this month I visited The Banyan Golf Club at Hua Hin. This beautiful new course was built on a former pineapple plantation and is also an IGOLF Laureate Course. IGOLF Laureate Courses have have made a commitment to promote environmental and social responsibility; I am a member of IGOLF’s Council of Experts.

I practiced my bunker shots at The Banyan but should have spent more time working on my putting stroke, which was absent this month as I traveled around Asia hitting brilliant approach after brilliant approach and then failed to convert so many birdie chances.

It is a nice touch to have one’s name on the locker; this is translated as Micah-sama and has me with a 10:44 starting time at the The Cypress Golf Club west of Osaka.

The Cypress Golf Club is one of the top clubs in Japan, ranked in the top 10 by one publication, and I was there for some turfgrass work while also playing the course, enjoying the hinoki baths, and missing a few more putts.
