Rice Farm Special

When you see this sign at the roadside, you know that grilled rats,
fresh from the rice fields, are waiting for you in the vicinity. I went to Korat today and sure enough the Saturday rat special was available from many vendors.

These rats near Khao Yai National Park are prepared differently than those for sale near Ayuddhaya. The heads of these rats are chopped off and the tails are missing, but note the cute little baby rats in the foreground. Surely the meat of these young rodents will be extremely tender. I should note that the price of these rats is still 200 baht/kg, the same as at Ayuddhaya, but the heads of these rats are gone, so you will get more meat per baht when purchasing rats thus prepared. Just a piece of advice for those on a budget.
